"Random Latin Phrases Are My Sine Qua Non"

Ex parte, habeus corpus, certiorari, pro bono, de novo, ad litem, and dozens of other Latin expressions are found in English documents and discourse even now. How did they enter English, how do you handle them in various other target languages, and how can you remember their meanings? This light-hearted, one-hour webinar dabbles in a little history and explores 30 of the most common English terms that still have a distinctly Latin flavor. Interpreters, translators and word lovers of all languages are welcome.

Speaker:

Marco Hanson is a Spanish translator, interpreter and instructor. Born and raised in Brownsville, Texas, he earned a bachelor’s degree in foreign languages at the Air Force Academy and a master’s in Spanish linguistics. He is active on the boards of professional organizations as a language access policy advocate, mentor and trainer.
